maybe the best or

maybe the best or
the worst of us are wrapped in
some mystery – it

takes a different kind of effort
to break, to reveal, to blossom

there is an old, new

there is an old, new
paralysis – a hitchhiker
on the most bearable
days, a parasite on
the worst – that pins
down a hand, an
arm, a leg, a morsel
of every hour, crushing
the cells and membranes
of day. we feel
sick about it all
the time, emerge
from the stupor
spasmodically to ask
one another for best and
worst case scenarios,
readjust our negativity
bias for a version
of survival

two-and-a-

two-and-a-
half feelings away
from being
unstuck has
become a lengthy
visitor. we sit
at the table
in silence, mostly
afraid to turn
on, check in,
update, call
up, initiate.
when no news
is no longer good
news, but imagining
the worst, two-
and-a-half feelings
away from being
unstuck is as sound
a visitor as any

allowing something

allowing something
good to come
around is twice
as long as allowing
the worst – let’s
improve on
our technique

some days are worse

some days are worse
than others, we pull
our blankets
more tightly around
each other, waiting
for comfort
to hit harder
