sky interrupted,

one day, our memories

one day, our memories
will no longer spark – you will
be left holding the

flint, and i will be steel, tired
of matching wits, igniting

nine times out of

nine times out of
ten, we approach each
other without knowing
the mettle of which
we are made. even
after years of testing
one another,
acknowledging as many
variables as our hearts
can hold, we will stumble
upon the end of
things and realize
that we failed to detect
the significance of one or
more properties,
overlooked the
hard spots that
we thought were
holding us together

you belong to the
pattern of iron and steel,
aluminum and

other variations, strength, on
which we could always depend

it doesn’t take long

it doesn’t take long
to get used to waking up
to the sound of steel

rubbing against each other,
telling the same city stories

in my parent’s house

in my parent’s house
i wake up to the
sounds of
heart pine steel
whispering as not
to wake me, soft
padding of
footsteps in the
hall, across the kitchen

in my parent’s house
we are held
between
heart pine steel
reinforced by
the breathing columns
shuttling in and out of
our particular
nucleus, like bio-
macromolecules
trying to make a living

in my parent’s home
they are
heart pine steel
every morning
beauty
every evening
warmth – and
everything is anchored
effortlessly
like some
sort of enchantment
