whether we like it

whether we like it
or not, we are exposed to
the paralyzing

virus of complacency –
the shows must go on and on

when this is all

when this is all
over, we will not try
to revive any
of it, not try
to recall the degree
of paralysis, not
try to recollect
the isolation, a
lifetime in limbo,
we will only
remember and
release, remember
and release,
remember and
release, release

** in the absence of The Daily Post from WordPress, here’s your daily prompt: release

there is an old, new

there is an old, new
paralysis – a hitchhiker
on the most bearable
days, a parasite on
the worst – that pins
down a hand, an
arm, a leg, a morsel
of every hour, crushing
the cells and membranes
of day. we feel
sick about it all
the time, emerge
from the stupor
spasmodically to ask
one another for best and
worst case scenarios,
readjust our negativity
bias for a version
of survival
