seeing and not

seeing and not
seeing is an easy
default – we pick up
the wrong glasses,
blame someone
else for not
looking where
we wish to go

we are travelers,

day 438,

day 438,
marriage looks like you looking
at me looking at

stop and don’t stop

at the bookstore the

at the bookstore the
other day, i get down to
my knees and find myself
eye-level to a shelf
of books that scream
you. i pull off
a few volumes, open
to chance pages,
always looking for a
message, a sign to
your disappearance.
in one is a man
lighting up a
cigarette, in
another is someone
cursing, and in
a third, a
blank page, waiting
for the right
moment that will
no longer come

time bunches

before music became

before music became
portable
, it could tickle
the toes, pull on our
skirts, tease our rhythms,
and make small talk
with memories. it is
no small wonder then
that we pack the trains
every morning, side
by side, plugged in,
absorbed, seeing
without looking
