there is a new clock
there is a new clock
in our living room, ticking,
ticking, ticking – you
are halfway around the world,
sleeping so soundly, clockless

** in the absence of The Daily Post from WordPress, here’s your daily prompt: clockless
in the middle of the
in the middle of the
night, the alarm setting
quietly switched
to uncontrollable
gigue in e minor
an hour ahead of
schedule, a surprise
to all as the city
awoke prematurely
to the pitter-patter
of wet, little feet
dancing atop
their window units

the rain has hands
the mind knows
nothing about, a clock
ticks as she gingerly
takes off her gloves

daylight saving starts
daylight saving starts
mostly bite-sized –
two tosses less
of dreaming, a handful
of minutes
more standing
in the shower, a tug-
of-war with the
clock, an even later
brunch, nap bumping
into bedtime, a
lost appetite

so this is how it feels
so this is how it feels
to be all of a sudden so
grandfather clockless
with no steady
hands to guide us
from the one to the
three, no crossing of
paths, almost by chance
at 12 noon or 2:10
or 3:16; no one to
dust off my sleep,
and say that is
enough, or pack
up the tears, and
say this, too,
shall pass –
meanwhile
the drunkard
known as
time takes another
swig of death
and passes
out in an
unmarked alleyway
