in the beginning was

was stella, rapping so
gently at my
window with her icy
knuckles this morning –
despite forecasts
and city shutdowns
and a state of emergency
declaration and thousands
of plows deployed
across the boroughs,
and lining up outside
grocery stores under
a cool blue sky –
despite everything, still
leaning on her southern
charm, like a new art form

when the Mephisto

when the Mephisto
came on the radio
this morning, i
remember your glee
that one hot Florida
summer, putting
your whole body
into melting
the piano, two
hands easily
spanning more
than blue skies.
we all knew we
would make
it one day, those
lucky enough to
dream about
floating away
