last night a perilla

last night a perilla
twig snapped and lit
into me such
unmanned sobs –
one moment, i was
dry, the next,
my sleeves were
defenselessly
soaked

I did not know what perilla was, so I found it to be pinyin, purple mint, wild coleus, a Chinese herbal and medicinal tea, often mistaken for the stinking nettle plant. How lovely and sad that the soft snap of this stalk could through its olfactory minty response, kick up the sense memory necessary for recall and a flood of emotion. Spiritual hugs are on their way to you. Bathe in the white light. Love is all around you.
