a dry eye is bravery
blinking a morse code signal –
three short, three long,
three short – my father
taught me this and even
now, i can hear his silvery
dits and dahs demonstrating
this subtle manipulation
of distress
i’m hiding in the bathroom
i haven’t used anything else
